The Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) is experiencing an unprecedented housing affordability problem. Ever-rising prices for homes are driving buyers to take on more and more debt just to get into the market. Decades of pursuing sprawl-dependent growth have resulted in higher taxes, longer commutes, poor transit options, and less housing choice.

Sprawl costs, and it's time to do something different.

We, the following 20 Ontario organizations, support policies to encourage the building of new housing in communities that already have infrastructure and services to support vibrant, livable neighbourhoods, not more costly sprawl.

  • More affordable housing choices
  • Shorter commutes
  • Better transit
  • Walkable neighbourhoods
  • Bikable communities
  • Healthier lifestyles
  • Lower taxes
  • Protects farmland
  • More environmentally sustainable

Take action

Led by some of Ontario's most respected housing advocates, environmental groups, and social justice organizations, we the signatories to this letter are calling on the Premier and government to make housing more affordable for Ontarians.
